Valencia Book Fair ~ 53rd edition of the Fira del Llibre de València

The Book Fair of Valencia is a celebration open to the public, and in addition to being able to buy books signed by the authors themselves, you can attend various literary acts, such as poetic readings, presentations, conferences and round tables.

The program also includes activities aimed at children and young people, such as storytellers, workshops and theater, together with a children’s library that has more than 350 titles.

Horchatada y Naranjada Fallera  

7 & 8 March 2018

On the 7 and 8 of March the Federation of Leisure, Tourism and Gaming of the Valencian Community (FOTUR) celebrates the ninth edition of its ‘Horchatada y Naranjada fallera’, in which around 8000 glasses of horchata and orange juice are distributed next to the Plaza de Toros de València between 12 and 14 hours.

The Day of the Dona Festival

9 March 2018

The ‘Day of the Dona Festival’ will be held at Port 2 of the Port of Valencia, from 8 pm on 9 March 2018.

Four Valencian singers will perform: The British air and the multifaceted voice of Josephine Sweet; the dance music of Lara Taylor, who at 23 years old already knows what it is to triumph inside and outside of Spain, and who has been the National Electronic Music Award for the best vocalist; Rebeca Moss, who was one step away from representing Spain in Eurovision in 2017; and Sandra Polop, who has more than a decade in the world of acting with a career that includes from albums to leading roles in musicals.

The ‘Day of the Dona Festival’ will be completed with a poster of first level dj’s. All Valencian, a mixture between established and young promises: Tanya Bayo, Angel Agata, Alicia DC, Charo Campillos, Marien Baker, Miss Rose and Monica X.

For four days the city erupts into a pyrotechnic orgy of fun and noise, the streets are closed and the partying begins.  There are many  events throughout the month leading up to the 15 March which is when it all starts happening.

On the 6 January children received their presents for Christmas from the 3 Kings.  On the 5 January, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar arrive at the port of  Valencia by boat,  usually around 5.pm.

Christmas in Valencia – Plaza del Ayuntamiento  (Town Hall Square)

Every year Plaza del Ayuntamiento hosts the Christmas celebrations in Valencia with a huge Christmas tree, open air ice rink and a French inspired 18th century carousel.

The Christmas market of València also opens on Friday  1 December  in La Lonja with toys, candles, crafts, ornaments and Christmas gifts – from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Note: Christmas Eve closes at 2:00 p.m and the night of the Reyes at 5:00 p.m.

Vive la Dieta Mediterranea at Mercado de Colón

Until – 16 December 2017

With a series of cultural and gastronomic activities, the Mercado Colón celebrates the year of València as the World Capital of Sustainable Food.

Up to one hundred adults can participate, free of charge, in the workshops of the Mercado Colón. The program includes lectures and workshops which involve chefs, nutritionists and merchants, to reclaim healthy habits among the population. The decoration of the building also focuses on the theme of local foods, which will be the protagonists of the last three months of the year.

Among others, fish lovers have an appointment with Luis Lázaro who on November 18 will teach how to open oysters and cook fish in a healthy way ; On the 23rd it will be the turn of Diego Laso, of Momiji; and on 28 it will be Toni Padial, head chef of Canalla Bistro, who will talk about horticultural products.

There are other workshops aimed at children from 7 years, from 11.30 to 13.30, with up to 60 free places.

The Triathlon  in the Marina

The competitions starts on Saturday at 7:30 and on Sunday at 8:00.

This is the second edition of the Bonica Fest which last year attracted 50,000 people from all over Valencia. The municipal markets open at night not just to offer food, but also activities and music.

Mercat Central is the center of the event but  there are 14 others participating  in Torrefiel, Natzaret, el Grau, Cabanyal and Patraix.  Stall owners serve their most original tapas at  very reasonable prices. Entrance to the markets is free.

The Day of Horchata and Chufa is celebrated with various events taking place in the Town Hall Square (Plaza del Ayuntamiento).

• From 11:00 there will be exciting activities, tasting and sale of products made with Chufa, award ceremony Orchater d’Honor 2017 and a show cooking restaurant Pepa Bluespace of Alboraia.
• The main event will be between 18:00 and 19:00, with a collective tasting horchata, followed by a show cooking restaurant Ciriaco, also Alboraia.
• There will also be an exhibition of the machinery used in harvesting tigernut, a recreation of a field of potatoes, horchata workshops and activities for children.

Valencia Festival of Films ~ Film d’Estiu (Summer Films  – July to September)

During the warm summer evenings the Turia Gardens hosts open-air film festivals featuring cult and classic films from around the world for you to enjoy.

Tickets are around 3.5 € for one session and 10 sessions cost €22 – with many excellent films (including some in English) along with popcorn, coke and beer.
