The competition attracts paella lovers from all over the country and the paella contest is held on the last day of the festival. A giant paella is cooked for all to enjoy.

Fiesta de la Tapa

FERIADELATAPAVeles e Vents building plays host to the fifth edition of Valencia’s Tapa fair organized by Mahou San Miguel – the taste of Spain and a truly lovely beer.

There will be 24 restaurants and bars offering quality tapas at very popular prices.

Opening hours: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: noon-4 :30 pm and 8 p.m – midnight.

Prices : 1 euro beers ,water and sodas. 1,5 euro each tapa. 2 euro premium beers.

The organization offers a free bus shuttle bus leaving from Xativa metro station in Calle Xátiva (opposite Estacion del Norte and the Bullring). The Royal Marina is easy to get to by bus, bike, tourist bus or tram.

The 9th edition of the Oktoberfest Olé! is held at the Plaza de Toros in Valencia.

This edition of Oktoberfest Olé! 2014 will have two college parties, and many other fun-filled theme parties such as eurosalchicha and brewmaster party with special pricing promotions from beer to traditional sausages and gigantic alemanas.

  • This year there will be a special promotion at noon. Enjoy a menu in true German style from € 8.50 Monday to Saturday 13:00 to 16:00 (except Sundays and holidays).

There will be a traditional live band playing popular Bavarian folklore themes alternated with international hits MAGUI- singing the great female voice of the orchestra.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the festival 10 bands will perform from five stages in the two-day pre festival run-up on 15 and 16 July.

Final headliners for the Saturday night line-up on 19 July – following the Libertines reunion show at the festival in Hyde Park on July 5 the  duo Pete Doherty and Carl Barat have been confirmed as headliners for the festival alongside Lily Allen, Example, Manic Street Preachers, Paolo Nutini and Kasabian.

Festival of Sant Joan : 23 June 

The festival of Sant Joan is a pagan festival celebrated all over Spain and coincides with the summer solstice.

To celebrate the longest night of the year huge bonfires are lit on the beach and everyone has fun with much singing and dancing and jumping over the bonfires.

Mother’s Day ( Día de la Madre)

In Spain Mother’s Day is always held on the first Sunday in May so this year it will be celebrated on Sunday 4 May.   Gifts usually include flowers and chocolates and Mothers are often taken out for a special lunch. Feliz día del madre!

Holi Run Valencia

Now in its second year, the Juan Carlos I Royal Marina will be hosting the Holi Run.

The 5K race is very entertaining and colorful race because the adults and children taking part in the race throw different coloured natural powders at each other while they are running.  Lots of fun with music, entertainment and much more.

All the streets are full of flowers as there are crosses made of flowers throughout the city.


Festival of Our Lady of the Forsaken

On the second Sunday in May is the festival of Our Lady of the Forsaken (Virgin of the Helpless), Patron Saint of the City.

basilicaandgirlEvery year at 10.30am El Traslado (the transfer) takes place.

The statue of the saint is carried by her followers in a procession of flower petals through La Puerta de los Hierros (the iron doors).

At the end of the festival the entire square is a blanket of flowers – Virgin de los Desamparados.

FREE Concerts at Museo Nactional de Ceramica

(On the last Monday of every month)

museum of ceramics valenciaAs well as housing the largest collection of ceramic pieces in Valencia, the Museo Nacional de Cerámica (National Ceramics Museum) hosts free concerts at 8 p.m in the museum ballroom on the last Monday of every month.

The ballroom is the ideal location to enjoy a classical music concert.  The building is thought to have been constructed in the 15th century and in the 18th century local sculptor, Hipólito Rovira, added the Churrigueresque doorway.

Tickets can be bought at the museum itself the week prior to the concert, without the need to book in advance by telephone.

Easter in Valencia

Easter Sunday ~ 20 April 2014

Easter is a lovely time to visit Valencia. Spring is here and there are many open-air bars and restaurants to enjoy the sun. You can take a walk in the Turia Gardens and head for the City of Arts and Sciences – one of the top attractions in Valencia.

Semana Santa (Holy Week) is a very solemn occasion in Spain. In Valencia it is celebrated in the maritime barrios of Cabanyal, Cabanyemelar and Grau with processions (romerias) throughout Easter week.


Feria del Libro de Valencia

The Valencia Book Fair is an annual event which is held in the lovely Viveros Gardens with activities, presentations, readings and much more.

During this week, the Viveros Gardens will host the book stores in the city that offer specials. There are also cultural events. Valencia booksellers have made possible the maintenance of this cultural event, with the cooperation of publishers, distributors, illustrators and various organizations and institutions.


Valencia Boat Show
